CSIRO - UNDERSTANDING CONSTRAINTS TO CROP PROFITS ON HIGHLY CALCAREOUS SOIL Grant uri icon

description

  • Very highly calcareous soils contain 30-90% free lime and pH is above 8.0 which has major implications for crop nutrition, root diseases and other issues, resulting in poor crop establishment, vigour, grain yield, and gross margins. This investment aims to boost crop profitability on calcareous soils in South Australia through increased understanding of the underlying mechanisms impairing the availability and uptake of phosphorous and other nutrients, along with other soil and plant constraints, and the validation of management practices to address these constraints.
