  • Mutant is very important resource in crop functional genomics and genetic improvement. Here we reported wheat EMS mutants generated from commercial wheat varieties Yanzhan4110, Jimai22 and Huaimai 33, and high transformability variety Fielder. In total, 8300, 9176, 7969 and 6729 lines were collected from the four varieties respectively. Among the rich phenotype variations, plant height, heading date mutants accounted for a high proportion. We used these mutants to breed backcross populations with wild type. Combination with bulked segregant RNA-seq and exome sequencing, we identified casual SNP responsible for tillering, heading date, compact spike and plant height phenotype, respectively.

    Taken together, the above wheat mutants will play key roles in wheat new gene discovery and breeding program.
