WHEAT INFORMATION SYSTEM (WHEATIS): STANDARDIZED DATA DISCOVERY THROUGH A SINGLE PORTAL Abstract uri icon

abstract

  • Wheat Information System (WheatIS) was created under the Wheat Initiative to define data standards and exchange protocols, create a file repository, and to develop a framework to support an integrated data discovery platform through a single portal (wheatis.org). WheatIS offers a range of wheat digital resources offered by the consortium of platforms and provides the international wheat research community with a facilitated access to indexed genetic, phenotypic, and environmental datasets. The indexed data sets at WheatIS are linked to globally distributed WheatIS nodes located at URGI, EBI, UWA, GrainGenes, Gramene, T3, transplant-MIPS, CIMMYT, among others. The Wheat Gene Catalogue is also indexed at WheatIS and linked to Komugi and can be easily searched. WheatIS is working towards developing better data standards and gene nomenclature, as well as creating a more advanced interface with improved search options to facilitate data discovery. New datasets are being continuously indexed at WheatIS; among them are the homoeologuespecific gene expression profiles (WheatExp/expVIP) that are expected to be available soon through WheatIS (wheatis.org).
