RESILIENCE EFFECT ON WHEAT GROWTH MEDIATED BY KODA, 9,10-KETOL-OCTADECADIENOIC ACID EXTRACTED FROM DUCKWEED Abstract uri icon

abstract

  • KODA (9-hydroxy-10-oxo-12(Z),15(Z)-octadecadienoic acid) isolated from duckweed (Lemna paucicostata) was found to be involved in enhanced root growth and plant development in wheat under environmental stresses such as alkalinity and drought. We investigated resilience effects of KODA on wheat growth under low nutrient condition. These KODA and its commercial product (Duckweed fertilizer: DFW) mediated physiological traits could be useful to efficiently uptake water and nutrients, and promote stable production in response to drought and high carbonate alkaline soils. We also apply KODA on a hydroponic culture of wheat to examine resilience effect of plants reviving potential under a severe osmotic stress with 30% PEG (equal to -1.2 MPa) or severe ion deficiency. KODA treatment before sowing showed effects to bear up wheat vegetative growth against the environmental stresses to save biomass in the winter season under the nitrogen and other elements deficiency condition, then keep productive tiller number in the stem elongation stage and recover the final grain yield with increasing seed number. This novel tool mediated by KODA improve plant growth ability against the nitrogen and ion deficiency increasing nutrients use efficiency and other environmental stresses for resilience and robustness of wheat and other crops growth.
