Genetic mapping of new powdery mildew resistance gene PmSJ106 in wheat variety S Jian106 Abstract uri icon

abstract

  • Wheat variety S Jian106 is immune or highly resistant to major diseases including powdery mildew, and was the hybrid of wheat variety xiaobingmai33 derived from Agropyron intermdium. In our study, Genetic analysis of the populations from Chines Spring/S Jian106 revealed that resistance was controlled by a single dominant allele, temporarily named PmSJ106. The gene responsible for powdery mildew resistance was mapped by the linkage analysis of two segregated F2:3 populations. This gene was located on chromosome arm 6DS and flanked by SSR markers SJ183 and SJ93912 at 1.6 and 2.8 cM, respectively. PmSJ106 differs from other Pm genes reported on chromosome 6DS in the pedigree and resistance spectrum, and should be a new source of resistance. In subsequent research, we plan to determine the chromosomal locations and positional clone PmSJ106 by SNP and SSR, to analysis the functions underlying disease resistance, and to screen the molecular markers suitable for marker-assisted breeding selection. PmSJ106 would be a new Pm gene from wheat relatives, which provides valuable genetic resources for breeding of resistant varieties.
