GENOTYPE AND ENVIRONMENTAL EFFECTS ON DURUM WHEAT QUALITY-IMPLICATIONS FOR BREEDING Abstract uri icon

abstract

  • To facilitate effective selection for quality in breeding programs an understanding of the effects of G, E and GXE interaction is important. The presence of GXE will inhibit selection, and knowledge is required as to the most appropriate testing regime. Most studies only cover two seasons but in this study 12 genotypes across 5 sites over 3 seasons sown in replicated field trials in New South Wales were conducted. Full technological analysis was conducted. Variance contributions were determined and heritability estimates. This is the first study in Australia on durum wheat and provides guidance as to which traits require multiple sites for effective selection and which traits have high heritability to allow genetic gain.
